Operation of the hydraulic column press MST
The press operates by using the dual buttons on a mobile pedestal simultaneously, as required by European safety standards.
European standards require the operator to use both hands during the pressing phases, to prevent the operator from unintentionally injuring himself while lowering the cylinder.
The standard version has microswitches to adjust cylinder stroke and set maximum lowering and rising points.
The cylinder rises automatically when:
- the dual buttons are released.
- the preset maximum lowering point is reached.
- the press quota has been reached.
If photoelectric barriers are installed on the press, it is sufficient to press the dual buttons once simultaneously to start the full cylinder lowering and raising cycle.
The console also has a selector switch to switch from automatic to manual mode. The latter mode is normally used for positioning the jigs and adjusting the microswitches. On the pedestal, in addition to the emergency button, there is also the button to raise the cylinder in manual mode.

General features of the MST hydraulic press
The two-column hydraulic press, model MST from SICMI, is ideal for punching, drawing and forming sheet metal and various materials.
This press model is characterized by the high approach speed of the cylinder that goes up to 125 mm/sec, making it ideal for use in workshops with fast production cycles.
The press is equipped with a sliding upper table and a fixed lower table bolted to the press frame. T-slots have been made on both tables for attaching molds.
The hydraulic power source is equipped with Rexroth solenoid valves and has 3 different speeds: a fast approach speed, a deceleration speed and a working speed.
The power source is located on the side of the machine, and the electrical panel on one side of the frame.
A metal protective screen has also been installed at the rear, allowing operators to work in complete safety.
